“Super tour!”

My husband, daughter and I have just come back from an amazing trip to Austria, Slovakia and Hungary and I have to say, our day with Andras was one of the highlights. We are very interested in history and in seeing things from a local perspective and Andras more than fulfilled our expectations which were high based on the feedback given here by others. The Trabant tour was very fun, and as others have expressed, we felt like we were the tourist attractin at times! Lunch with Andras' parents is a must do. We were taken into their home as guests and felt like we had made new friends. Hopefully they will contact us if they ever make it to Norway :) The tour to Szentendre was very nice and Andras never made us feel stressed although we aren't the quickest of tourists...taking about 500 pictures! I highly recommend this trip...you will never forget it!

“Holiday Highlight”

My "MyPersonalBudapest" tour was shared by my husband and 21 year old daughter and customised by email to suit our interests by Andras. This was our second visit to Budapest, so we opted for "10 hidden treasures - things not found in guide books" which were varied and fun, particularly with Andras to chat with on the way. The Art Nouveau cafe was interesting, the Central Europesn Jewish cake was good, the fountains were fun, the pub in a ruined building was zany and the remnants of the ghetto wall very moving. Andras parents were great hosts for lunch, and it is always good to get out of a city centre and see what it is really like yo live there. With the help of the Hungarian / English and English / Hungarian parts of the dictionary, we all found we could talk about anything, and felt like we had made new friends. Perhaps when you visit, Andras's mother will be trying out the Scottish gingerbread recipe we have since sent her. The next morning we had the pleasure of visiting Mr Fellegi for a concert of Liszt, Bartok, Chopin and Bach all played with not only skill but Hungarian fervour. My daughter is a pianist and post-graduate music student, so we had arranged this as a treat for her, but all three of us enjoyed it very much. It was actually rather sad parting with Andras. like others, we felt we had made a new friend. The cost of the tour was not unreasonable for what was provided. Andras is knowledgable, well organised, flexible and very good company. his tours are well worth a go.

“Fantastic experience!”

Words can not begin to describe our feelings after such two great days spent visiting and experimenting Budapest and the Hungarian country side, in such a friendly way. Let us try to describe our 2 days tour:

We (my husband and I) started the first day visit with a Trabant tour. Andras was waiting for us in our hotel, and our first impression was that he is very reliable, professional and well educated tourist guide. The young gentlemen who was providing the Trabant was very enthusiastic about his car, and we could see that he was taking much care and pride in maintaining the antique in good shape. We went to the castle and Andras explained us lots of interesting facts about the Hungarian history. After they took us to a tour around the city, and a stop in a very nice café which is an Art nouveau furniture museum at the same time. As an industrial designer, I found this visit quite interesting, to see all these different kinds of rare furniture.

Then, Andras took us to his parent’s home, which was a lovely home located in a residential neighborhood. I found it nice to see how it looks like outside the city center. Andras’s parents made everything to make us feel like at home, and let me tell you how much we have eaten as if we were kings! I wish I could have seen Andras’s Mom cooking, so that to learn some of her secrets!

After, Andras and his father brought us to Szentendre, where we visited the lovely village. Afterwards began some moments that I will never be able to forget! We went to a ceramic workshop in Szentendre and met with some very friendly people (Gabriella and Laszlo), who were patient enough to teach us the basics of pottery making; my husband and I both had the opportunity to try a ceramic piece of art each. It was such a sensual and technical experience! We had so much fun trying to do our ceramic piece! It is a pitty that we live so far away from Hungary as we both felt that we could become good friends with them!

We ended our day with a private piano concert, in a famous pianist’s appartment, Mr. Fellegi. This was, in my opinion, a MAGIC moment, something I will still remember when I will be an old lady (!) It is hard to explain the feeling of being «inside» the music and not only listening to the classical music on a CD or the radio. Mr. Fellegi really made us feel comfortable and we were in the right atmosphere to enjoy the piano concert.

The second day was even more unforgettable: Andras and his father took us to the city of Eztergom, we had the opportunity to cross the Danube to see Slovakia, and we also visit Hungary’s largest church, which is on top of a hill with a beautiful view on the Danube and Slovakia. We also had lunch in a great restaurant (here my husband will recommend the Transylvania soup that is incredibly tasteful and delicious!)

We visited the country side and we ended our day in a vineyard. I believe this was my husband’s favorite part! The lady, Vali Hernyák took the time to explain us about her familly’s winery business and made us taste many different wines (all very - very nice!) We could see how much love she puts in her art and we very much appreciated the time she spent with us. We also had a plate of local home-made cold cuts and cheese (again, incredibly delicious with the last wine we have tasted). Again, and sorry for repeating myself! we felt that we could have become good friends with this lovely lady and husband as we share the same vision of work and life.

Everyone we have met with Andras were friendly and warm in a genuine way. We feel that we have some friends now in Hungary and almost a familly there!

Not only that, but we were never rushed through the events and location, giving ample time to enjoy the activities in a tailored fashion. Also Andras was very organised and everything run smoothly during the 2 days.

Needless to say at this point that we highly recommand the personnal tour provided by Andras and let us tell you that it is worth every penny invested.

P.S. We read an other comment on this site that we can barely understand! The car that was supplied to do the tour was a Corolla in very good condition, and pretty recent. Why would some members of TripAdvisor use this site to put down in an exagerated way some facts? Opinions are opinions but facts should be based on reality, so that Trip Advisor can continue to be a reliable tool.

Food, wine, sights and sounds...MyPersonalBudapest showed us all of them

I just wanted to write and say thanks for the excellent tour you arranged for us in June. Having never visited Budapest, or Hungary for that matter, my partner and I knew little of it apart from what we had read but many websites focussed on the city's obvious USP's (unique selling points) like the cave system and the spas and less so on the wonderful hospitality and the sights and sounds of the contrasting areas of Buda and Pest. Many websites also concentrated on restaurant reviews, however we found a gem that most people never know about, unless they had contacted you. Our second stop on our tour, if you recall, after visiting the beautiful riverside town of Szentendre was for a genuine home cooked family meal. At that point I knew we'd booked something truly special that a large tour operator could only wish to replicate, and fail. Not only was the food delicious but the hospitality was amazing and we left feeling very full!

All of the travel was taken care of which was fantastic and we were given plenty of opportunities to explore the town for ourselves. you found the right balance between being a tour guide and letting ourselves wander. You also organised our cruise of the Danube and took us to a fun ceramic making session where Alexandra and I still argue about who made the best plate. For the record, it was me! If that wasn't enough we also had time to squeeze in a visit to a family vineyard where after sampling lots of wine we were able to sit, eat and reflect on a great four days in your country.

So, to us, the people are what made Budapest the great holiday it was and we would like to thank you Andras. Best wishes to your family also.

I thoroughly recommend you and mypersonalbudapest to anyone who's looking to do something different on their vacation and have completely unique stories to tell when you come home. Please feel free to use my comments on your own website and I wish you the best of luck for the future - until we return for more.

Kind regards

An unforgettable winter experience in beautiful Budapest!

Our group--20 of us from Singapore looks back very fondly on our time at Budapest with Andras! Andras is a very patient and dedicated tour guide who had time for everyone in the group and who made sure that everyone was comfortable and enjoying their trip. I have requested a specially tailored itinerary to our needs and wishes months before our trip and Andras was the only local guide that rendered very detailed advises and assistance in all ways to make sure that our trip is an enjoyable one not restricted only in budapest but other leg of our europe trip as well. And everyone enjoyed the programme to the fullest--kids and adults alike! He made sure we got to see, taste, smell and feel the best of Budapest in just 4 days. Andras was also very knowledgeable and passionate about spreading the Hungarian culture, history and way of life, and it was extremely enriching and truly eye-opening as we learnt about Budapest and Hungary from him. It was really an unforgetable experience to have lunch at his house, where we had the rare chance to taste true Hungarian cuisine and to interact with his parents to get to know the true Hungarian way of life! Not forgetting his mother, a true warrior, during the snow war with all the kids. They really enjoyed it! All in all, it was a most memorable and enjoyable time in Budapest with Andras, and definitely a very unforgettable stay that captured the essence of Budapest!

Unique, Unforgettable almost feel like a local!

We were looking for a tour to familiarize ourselves with Budapest and its sites but wanted to feel we were visiting family who was showing us around. Andras delivered just that. We contact him prior to arrival to arrange the Trabant sightseeing tour with the lunch at a Hungarian Home. The Trabants are very unique. People could not help look at us in these little weightless cars. They drove through very narrow streets even backroads we are sure the tour buses can't. The drivers who own the Trabants actually collect them and race them on 2 wheels! Amazing. The tour was at a great pace and reduced quite a bit of the walking which waas great for us. My friend Marta had just broken her foot and removed the cast right before the trip so she was concerned she would not be able to see everything or keep up walking but Andras kept the pace and the cars really made it all work. Make sure to share with Andras as much as possible about your interests so he can make additional suggestions for a truly unique experience. The Lunch was amazing and felt like we were part of the family. We kept comparing the Bean Goulash Soup we had at the home but none was better! As we toured with Andras, we shared about our love for wine and our interest to visit a local winery. He was so good to immediately check into it and he made arrangements with Hernyak Winery. I was left speechless once we arrived and tasted the wines. They are all handmade and the winemakers are so personable and friendly. We ate in the vineyard and remember the sun going down and the dining table getting dark just lit by the light of the fireplace... we could have been there exchanging stories for hours! Simply priceless folks.
